"Nose," Dierdre Laughton

BAG is pleased to announce our upcoming show, “CloseUp: Small Works.” The juried show was put as an open call to artists, asking them to explore the idea of a ‘close up’ in 12″ x 12″ x 12″ or less.  The resulting show is a fascinating look at intimacy and detail, ranging from the totally abstract to the painstakingly real.  Through photography, paint, pencil, sculpture, sound and even blood (well, photos of it), these artists share their vision in what it means to get close.

On view from September 10 to September 20.
Opening reception: Friday, September 10, 6 – 10 pm.
Participating Artists: Adel Kerpely, Agnieszka Golasik, Aimee Hertog, Ashley Petrolati, Camilla Gurun, Christina Sarquiz, David Seligman, Deirdre Laughton, Diana Leidel, Donna Faranda, Elizabeth Hoy, Elizabeth Medina, Elizabeth Valentin, Emilie Keim, Eric Strauss, Evan Zelermyer, Faith Gabel, Hee Kyoung Song, Hilary North, Illona Kahl, James Shirey, Jeehae Lee, Jennifer DeWald, Jesse Fischer, Joey Parlett, Joshua Peters, Julie Friedberg, Kim Valdez, Kimberly Hennesy, Kristina Martino, Laura Lee-Gorgescu, Lauren Lisette-Baccus, Linda Nesbit-Floria, Linda Siegel, Luda Pahl, Madeline Bohm, Margot Spindleman, Mark Schoon/Dominic Lippillo, Max Heller, Megan Klim, Meredith Caliento, Misako Oba, Nancy Glover, Nikita Vishnevskiy, Nina Kuriloff, Patricia Pauldanus, Patrick Maguire, Pete Watts, Regina Silvers, Rihanna Hurt, Roberta Alexander, Sandhya Boyd, Seamus O’Brien, Shawn Yu, Sunita Prasad, Trevor Brown, Tyler Mitchell, Valerie Crosswhite, Zoe Moffit

Painting an Installation – Alexa Meade

July 27, 2010
Timmy on the Metro

One of our members, Nelsena Burt-Spano, just brought my attention to the work of Alexa Meade.  My mind is offically blown. Meade paints her subjects.  Literally.  She layers thick impasto onto real people, placing them in installations which are also painted, so that her final result resembles a gorgeously painted but disconcertingly mobile canvas.  The [...]
