My interest lies in social structure, stereotypes, and the communication that happens between the two.
I paint men as contemplation on how they are treated differently from individual to individual mainly and then secondly from male to female. What are the reasons that one person should be condemned or admired purely by a glance? Is this a learned behavior, pure ignorance, or complications of an encounter? Through the figure’s placement in the foreground and minimal to no background I place the question on my painting and society, “Why are we so focused on him?” My interest stems from something as simple as a wrinkle or expression of the face that brings forth inquires of the subject’s status in society in my mind. Through the use of primarily appropriated images from media as my source material I am able to edit what has already been selected for the public to digest.
