I paint with my hands. I like the direct, intimate contact of my fingers in the paint, on the canvas. It’s an intuitive method I’ve pursued since childhood.
I am influenced by Taoist, Buddhist or Hindu traditions of being open to receiving the unexpected, acceptance of the way things are, and the inter-relatedness of destruction and creation. My paintings are inspired by Tibetan Thangkas, which serve as a records of and guides for contemplative experience; Buddhist Taras, which are gateways to states of mind; and by Tings, Taoist cauldrons used to obtain nourishment for spiritual use. I find that painting, like the Ting, is itself affected by the mutability of conditions as transient contents move through it.
