Polaroid Transfer and Emulsion Lift Transfer
Sunday May 6
1 to 5pm
Adults 16+
Limited to 6 students
Cost: $40 (plus $30 Materials fee payable to instructor)
Image transfer is a technique by which any color Polaroid peel-apart film can be used to create an original print on a range of artist papers. After the film has been exposed in the normal way it is pulled from the camera or back to start the development. However without waiting the usual 60 seconds, the film is almost immediately peeled apart, the print discarded, and the negative placed face down on the print paper leaving an enchanting and timeless image behind. The option of going into the print enhancing the image with watercolor and inks will be provided.
Due to the nature of the process each print is an original never duplicating the same result.
Students will finish the class having created several timeless looking images ready for framing.

Suminagashi Paper Marbling is believed to have originated in China and then adopted by The Japanese around the 8th Century. Persia also adopted this technique for calligraphic manuscripts in the 16th century. Paper marbling then found it’s way to Europe in the 17th century and found a permanent home in bookbinding.
For a long time the marbling process was a closely guarded secret.
This artistic technique creates ephemeral, swirling designs created with several key hand tools and age old techniques. We will be using Suminagashi marbling technique.
